To Fix or Not To Fix?

Developing a quality video game product requires adequate time of testing.  The testing of the video game product needs to look at not only the best case scenarios but the “what if” conditions.  The more extensive the testing, the more confident the development team can be in their video game product.  Testing, although extremely important to quality development, is often over looked and dismissed to expedite development and meet deadlines.

The rush to get a new video game product to market increases the chances of bugs/glitches being missed by the testing team.  The rush is not the sole cause behind video game glitches, glitches are left undiscovered by a variety of causes.  These causes can range from the testing team just not finding the glitch, cost to correct the video game glitch was not feasible per the issue the glitch caused, or the glitch was viewed more as an enhancement than an issue to correct.

The consumer or development team viewing glitches in video games as bad or good depends on what the glitch does.  Glitches can cause a variety of issues ranging from temporary video issues to more serious issues of saved data lose.  Glitches in video games with passionate followings of consumers can cause those consumers to vent their displeasure of the glitch in negative ways.  The loyal following of the video game “Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords” sent death threats to the company CEO.

The many consumers desire a glitch free video game, but what is more important money or perfection?
