As long as video games have been played glitches have existed although, not every video game has glitches. Some gamers have grown to expect and even like these little interruptions. For some, searching for glitches has become a game of its own. The very act of finding glitches and using them to the player’s advantage seems to enhance the thrill of the game, while still others, have avoided games with glitches at all costs.
According to Wikipedia a glitch is a programming error which results in behavior not intended by the programmers. Once a glitch has been discovered and it undergoes a quality assurance exercise, it is then recorded and reported back to the programmers. It is then the responsibility of the programmers to take action and fix the glitch accordingly. Many video game manufactures encourage communication between their company and their customers urging them to report back to the company with any problems, including glitches.
Glitches can be exposed on purpose or be hit accidentally. Regardless of how they are discovered, the fact remains that glitches can be a nuisance, until they are fixed. Because electronics are involved in making video games, glitches seem to be a part of the video game making process.
There are whole articles written about glitches with their advantages as well as their disadvantages. Still, video games and video game systems continue to sell like hotcakes. As technology advances, glitches may eventually become a thing of the past. Until then, consumers will seemingly continue to purchase video games along with all of their shortcomings.
